On June 6, 1944, as American forces stormed the beaches of Normandy in one of the most pivotal moments in world history, a group of courageous firefighters in Columbia, South Carolina, laid the foundation for what would become the Columbia Professional Firefighters Local 793.
Founded on D-Day, our union was born in the spirit of duty, sacrifice, and unwavering brotherhood—values reflected both on the battlefield and in the fire service. Just as those brave soldiers fought for freedom and one another, the charter members of Local 793 stood together to protect the rights and welfare of their fellow firefighters.
For over 80 years, we have carried forward that legacy of service. We honor the courage of those who came before us by remaining relentless in our commitment to protecting lives, supporting our members, and strengthening our community. While we can never fully repay the debt owed to those who sacrificed on that historic day, we proudly uphold their example through our continued dedication and unity.
